Fernando Martinez better be the best player in baseball.
Right, because it'd just be him straight-up... you guys act like Santana guarantees a Mets championship in the next five years... that is not even close to the case if you need 3 years to recover your farm (this draft is not bringing 3 guys who can help by '09 unless you wanna get all relievers again)
Face it, either the Mets win this year with Delgado, Pedro and Wagner still relatively productive and under contract or they need to rebuild starting 2009... you can't keep going this old and this overpaid forever, you'd be wasting the primes of your two best homegrown stars since Doc & Darryl
This would be a great trade for the Yankees, but if Bill Smith and Terry Ryan wanna be boneheads about it, then so be it
Odds of Johan getting the Mets a title are probably better than the chances of FMart getting the Mets a title.
Absolutely.
And the chances of finding another Fernando Martinez are a lot better than finding a Johan Santana.

Pelfrey's also pitched last year in 2006 meanwhile Hughes was brought up this year earlier than I thought. Hughes should never been bought up from minors in the place.
Look at His playoffs perfomance against Indians..
What Hughes record this year despite missing some time in his injury?
That’s small sample size..
The Mets already have Pedro. That's reason Why Omar brought Pedro here in Ny to pitch like as Ace..
The Redsox have Beckett as their Ace who was traded from Marlins..
Meanwhile The Yankees doesn't have an ace... Did any of you watch Wang's perfomance against Indians last year in the playoffs?
Wang's is good pitcher but He's not ace. He's came up from Yankees Farm system and doesn't make a ton of money unlike Pedro..
The Yankees also have three kids in the rotation next year along with Wang and Pettite.. The Yankees needs Santana to compete with Boston and Beckett.

Yes, but They traded Alfonso Soriano to get Arod..
I would say the same things about Redsox. They're same ol Redsox. They traded for Beckett who's 26 years old from Marlins. They have to give up their top prospect Hanley Ramirez in return.

How much better did he make you in the postseason?
And dont give me that he brought you to the postseason shit either. If he won't do anything in the playoffs then it's all moot.
This is baseball not basketball he has 3 AB's its more then just him.
Pitching wins in the grand scheme of things and when one guy wins it for you its usually average player like a Aaron Boone, Bucky dent or a Scott Brosious.
This isn't basketball where the best player gets his 25 shots and the ball down the stretch or football where the QB has the ball in his hands...
This is baseball where it usually comes down to your 25 man roster and pitching.
See that is common sense, but I am sure you by into that whole its all A-Rods fault thing

Doomsday ranting. Doubtful that either Fernando or Gomez are impact players by 09, and they're the only position depth that matters. Gomez should be good in AAA, possibly come up and be alright the second half of this year, and be ready to be solid during his first full season in 09. But he's not going to have approached his power potential in 09, and giving us a .280/.350/.410 line with 50 steals isn't really going to be a huge impact. You're looking at 2010 at the earliest by the time Fernando and Gomez are in a lineup together, probably 2011 by the time they're both producing to their potential.
If you get Santana for Gomez/Fernando/Pelfrey/Heilman (which is ridiculous), you'll still have a better chance of winning 08 and 09 than you will 09-2012 without him. Retain Ollie and sign one bat like Tex or Dunn and the holes don't seem so apparent. In the 09 off season you should still have a team with Santana, Maine, and Ollie; an offense that still has a core of Reyes-Wright-Beltran-FA; and a system that might not be poised to promote a young superstar position player but will be deep enough to deal from. Humber/Mulvey should have their values established as either good or mediocre players on the ML level, Guerra hopefully as a system gem in AAA or possibly having made a September debut, and probably a good number of players coming off pretty good AA campaigns from what is our current depth in rookie ball and low A. Throw in wherever the fruits of the 08 draft has progressed to and some guys from our past few IFA classes making good showings of themselves, and I'd think we'll have enough depth to deal for whatever we need.
I obviously wouldn't do that deal, but overpaying for Santana won't make this team 08 or bust.

Huh? You know you don't win the WS every year right? I am coming at you from a logical perspective that understands what he has done for us in the season...... He has made us better.
To much ESPN and Mike Lupica for you.

So you want Carlos Beltran out the door right?
Why because of 1 postseason? If you want to compare him to Arod then he needs at least 4 appearances. Laughing
Arod is not good for a TEAM no matter how you look at it.
But Yankee way states...get the best and you'll be the best!

First off, I don't believe all these rumored deals. I think this could be a ploy to get the Red Sox to up their offer.
Compare that deal to the haul the Rangers got with Texiara.
Salty = Hughes in value. Then the Braves threw in four good prospects plus they had to lose a first rounder and not a second rounder for Glavine.
Hughes is a potential ace. I understand the loss of the avatar and emotional attachment, but there's only about a 50% chance Hughes actually becomes a 1 or a 2. Google Paul Wilson and generation K for more.
Melky is a reserve outtfielder. The Yankees can swing a trade for depth if need be. Marquis is nothing. A 14th best prospect isn't worth losing any sleep over especially when he's developing slowly.
In return the Yankees get the best pitcher in baseball who is a lefty to boot. What's not to like.

I would say same thing for Redsox. Why would Twins want Coco Crisp who will cost alot than Ellsbury in deal?
