Mariano Rivera Most Hall of Fame eligible reliever of all time--Dr. Michael Hoban, PhD.
http://xmmlbchat.blogspot.com/
A baseball scholar, Michael Hoban, Ph.D, reaches the following conclusion about Mariano Rivera--WITHOUT USING ANY POST SEASON NUMBERS--which will cause some to grab the digitalis:
* "As you can see, at this point in his career, Mo Rivera is way ahead of the HOF standard and could emerge as the greatest relief pitcher to date."
Dr. Hoban's new book, "Baseball's Best, The True Hall of Famers," covers relief pitchers in Chapter 11. It incorporates his "NEWS" analysis tool which among other stats recognizes Win Shares:
* I was directed to this work by another blog, Sean Lahman's Seamhead.com on which he has a chart of Dr. Hoban's work. Seamhead.com posts Dr. Hoban's results--again, not using any post season numbers:
2. "The 150/1700 standard – The true relievers
There are only five pitchers in the 20th century who have attained a NEWS score of 150 while pitching in fewer than 1700 innings. These are the true relievers who have definite HOF numbers. Here they are:
Player IP NEWS
Mariano Rivera 953 175
Lee Smith 1289 164
Bruce Sutter 1042 164
Dan Quisenberry 1043 156
Rollie Fingers 1701 155
Rollie Fingers just makes it since he actually pitched in 1701 innings. Only Bruce Sutter and Fingers are in the Hall of Fame.
* This would seem to imply that Mariano Rivera is the best true reliever of the century.
You will note that Trevor Hoffman (the “saves” leader) is not on this list. His NEWS score is 142.
* For more info on the NEWS HOF Gauge, see BASEBALL’S BEST: The TRUE Hall of Famers on this site."
From Seamheads.com blog, 12/26/07"
* Anyhow, pretty interesting. Don't forget your digitalis--you know who you are. (sm)
A short bio on Michael Hoban on The Baseball Guru.
* P.S. Do not show this data to John Delcos or Karl Ravetch unless they're sitting down. Or for that matter, Tom Verducci or Ed Randall, Dibs and Kevin, Mark Patrick, Buck Martinez, or Billy Ripken. And of course.....George Mitchell. Oh, and Glenn Geffner the new Red Sox radio guy. Joe Castiglione could handle it but not Geffner. Also Jerry Crasnick of course--just make that anyone who works for any ESPN or MLB platform.
* P.S. #2. NO MENTION OF GOOSE GOSSAGE.
(I first posted this here on 12/26/07. I'm re-posting it after the deluge of bile Goose Gossage put out about Rivera. The publicity--the usual sources-- mainly used selections of the "total save stat" (regular season only) to sell the world why Mariano was a delicate flower and Gossage was better. Always leaving out the 117 innings of Rivera in the post season, plus all star stats. I guess Gossage didn't like his post season and all star stats. Gossage is supposedly the anti-save stat guy and the BBWAA guys say they despise the total save stat.) sm

NY Times tells a lie about Andy Pettitte today
http://xmmlbchat.blogspot.com/
From the NY Times article by Michael S. Schmidt, 1/12/08, "For McNamee and Clemens, a New Dispute."
* "Andy Pettitte, who has already admitted taking several injections of H.G.H., as McNamee asserted in the report on baseball and performance-enhancing drugs that former Senator George Mitchell released Dec. 13."
This is a lie. Pettitte has not admitted to several injections of HGH (which was not illegal and does not enhance performance). He admitted to exactly 2. There's a difference between 2 and several but if you're the NY Times, you can say whatever you want. The NY Times is part owner of the Boston Red Sox of which George Mitchell is a director. As Rob Dibble noted today, most media will not question any circumstances around the so-called Mitchell Report. They are afraid to do so.
* UPDATE 2:50AM: The NY Times has made a correction from their earlier edition. Their story about Andy now says "he admitted to injections," Glad they made the correction. sm

Susan Mullen- The media don't want to upset the Red Sox or MLB"--Dibs
http://xmmlbchat.blogspot.com/
Dibs says this is why they don't make a bigger deal about the conflict of interest in George Mitchell heading up the so-called PED Report, the extremely limited way names were gathered and dramatically unveiled. Both Dibs and Kevin said lawyers they've spoken to have agreed it was clearly unethical.
* If I said that or a caller to a radio show (other than Dibs' and Kevin's) were to do so, they'd be shouted down (as little Evan Roberts of WFAN has done, Steve Somers on WFAN, Chris Russo on WFAN, others I've heard on ESPN1050, on and on). sm
Dibs and Kevin also discuss how baseball writers are used by teams for their own advantage.
* (Those seeking jobs/income at MLB/ESPN would rather minimize this kind of thing. The word "respect" is not relevant in assessing baseball writers. They've chosen to be in effect, prostitutes. Many other lines of work involve compromise, fine. But don't insult us by saying there's anything esteemable about today's baseball writers and their tight fraternity). sm
Dibs also said: "Media is in cahoots with baseball owners on most issues." (Media guys think we don't know this-sm). Measures could've been taken as they have recently--clubhouse security, etc.--without ruining selected names. Former Senator Mitchell probably never thought about the impact this has on the cherry-picked players' families. Selig and Mitchell thought, we'll make ourselves look good if we put all the pressure on big name guys.
* Dibs and Kevin: ESPN and others refuse to ever talk about the ethical issues in how this report was done. The writers all assume players' guilt. ESPN runs negative sensationalist polls. Not exactly journalism.
(A website proprietor claimed sensationalist stories on Mitchell report names were ok because they brought in a high number of comments. Fine. But this person also imagines he's a "journalist" and "respectable.") sm
* Dibs and Kevin: Media can't understand anything as much as creating controversy and ratings.
***I've been documenting most of the above for 2 years and have been ridiculed as a conspiracy theorist by people I never knew existed. Those in power have overlooked no detail in their plans to stay there. The Yankees have long been oblivious to the unspeakable negativity churned by the media and this is the result of their lack of awareness.
* Politicians from Washington spend most of their time and taxpayers' money trying to bring down their own opponents. As I've said, this is a free for all, and the Yankees are still oblivious.*** Susan Mullen

Re: Huston Street's available?
John Dowd on the Mitchell Report
http://mlbonxm.blogspot.com/
“I don’t understand what Clemens and Harden are doing. If Clemens is as adamant as he appears to be, I don’t know…I mean, George Mitchell is not a hard guy to talk to. I mean, this guy was a federal judge, a US attorney, a United States senator. He is a public man and all he had to do was go in and say ‘Look, why do you want to talk to me.’ Mitchell would have given him a list of what he wanted to talk about, and you know, he could have made his presentation to him. Rusty Harden could have made the presentation. It smacks to me of Rose, who refused to come to a hearing, who refused to respond to my report and then started playing all kinds of media games, instead of going to the guy authorized to investigate by the Commissioner. I mean, Clemens is an active player and not respecting that and when people don’t respond to authority, I think the public is entitled to infer that things would not go well. Now lets take the whole issue of McNamee. I mean, if I were representing Clemens and Clemens tells me look I just got shot up with Vitamin B-12, although I don’t quite understand all that, but go in there and you know, say ‘McNamee is a liar, I didn’t do it.’ Now that has some credibility, I mean there is no reason not to believe when he makes that assertion... I don’t understand why Clemens and his lawyer didn’t do that. And when I see people not doing that and trying to kill the messenger, to me that is an inference against him. And then he’s got Pettitte to deal with who corroborates McNamee. You know it just smacks of the media circus that Rose put on. And I’m not impressed." -John Dowd on Roger Clemens not talking to George Mitchell

Re: Huston Street's available?
Santana will be dealt by the start of spring training. But there is no reason for the Twins to do it now when THEY believe they can get any of the proposed offers from the Yankees or Red Sox a week from now or even two weeks from now.
So there will be no struggling by anybody to effect the trade.
Right now, the Twins are just throwing stuff against the wall hoping something will stick and the Yankees will increase their offer.
Smith said from the very beginning that the Twins had to "let this process play out."
That is exactly what they are doing.

Re: Huston Street's available?
Tom Brady
AP Photo/Winslow Townson
The Patriots' Tom Brady was as close to perfect as you could expect a quarterback to be Saturday against the Jaguars. He had two incompletions, and each bounced off his target's hands.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Halfway through the first quarter of the New England Patriots' 31-20 divisional-round victory Saturday night, Tom Brady completed a 14-yard pass to wide receiver Randy Moss on an inside hook route to convert in a fourth-and-5 situation.
Then, over the ensuing 52 minutes of the win over the Jacksonville Jaguars that advanced the Patriots into the AFC Championship Game against the survivor of Sunday afternoon's San Diego Chargers-Indianapolis Colts matchup, Moss never caught another pass. In fact, Brady never so much as glanced his way again, let alone tried to get him the ball.
And did it matter?
Uh, no, not at all.
"Here's the thing about this team: Everybody has everyone else's back," said tailback Kevin Faulk, one of several complementary performers who came up big on an evening when the NFL's most explosive offensive unit got next to nothing from the most explosive vertical playmaker in the league.
"There's just an unbelievable trust factor here that is nurtured by the coaching staff. If one guy doesn't do it, all the rest of us know that we have to do just a little bit more then."
In moving to within one victory of a fourth Super Bowl appearance in seven seasons, New England had a lot of role players do a lot as it dispatched a feisty Jacksonville team that came into Gillette Stadium undaunted by the Patriots' perfection.
Brady, as usual, was brilliant. He completed all but two of his 28 attempts, for 262 yards, with three touchdown passes and no interceptions, for a glittering passer rating of 141.4. The only two times the ball hit the ground were on drops, one by tight end Benjamin Watson five minutes into the third quarter, breaking a string of 16 straight completions, and one by slot receiver Wes Welker with just under seven minutes left to play in the game.
After being sacked by defensive tackle John Henderson on New England's initial offensive snap of the contest, Brady was hit only twice the rest of the way. With that kind of incredible protection, watching him was like watching a training camp seven-on-seven drill.
Queried about the calm with which he plays, Brady joked that he was "all Zen." Watson had a different view.
"Spectacular," the tight end said. "No, make that very spectacular, if there is such an expression. But why are people surprised? I mean, this isn't like this is the first time Tom has performed great in a playoff game, you know? But, yeah, he was incredible."
The supporting cast -- even with Moss held in check by a superb coverage package conjured up by Jags' defensive coordinator Mike Smith, with cornerback Brian Williams shadowing the New England star and the secondary mixing two-high safety looks with nickel and dime alignments -- wasn't bad, either.
Even though Moss did nothing to dent the Jaguars, the Patriots still rang up 24 first downs and 403 yards. They scored on five of their seven meaningful possessions, not counting a late series in the first half on which Brady killed the clock with a kneel-down run. They squandered another scoring chance when kicker Stephen Gostkowski sailed a 39-yard field goal attempt wide right. Punter Chris Hanson didn't get off the bench until there was less than a minute remaining in the game.
"Just a lot of guys, a lot of them, doing their jobs well," fullback Heath Evans said.
The roll call of playmakers on the offensive side was, indeed, a lengthy one.
Second-year tailback Laurence Maroney had a huge game, rushing for 122 yards and a score on 22 carries. Welker registered nine receptions for 54 yards and converted five of his grabs into first downs. Watson had only two receptions, but both were for touchdowns.
Faulk typically proved a problem for the Jaguars' linebackers when the Pats got him out in space. And wide receiver Donte Stallworth -- a starter at the outset of the season, but a player who has watched his playing time dwindle as Jabar Gaffney has gotten more snaps -- made two huge plays.
The first, a 53-yard catch deep up the right sideline, demonstrated just how savvy Brady is, and how much he trusts guys to make plays for him. It came on a second-and-9 play in the fourth quarter, with the play designed as a screen to Maroney in the left flat. As Brady turned to throw, Jacksonville defensive end Paul Spicer penetrated upfield and right into his passing lane. Brady calmly pulled the ball down, turned his shoulders to the backside of the play, and tossed a perfectly lobbed rainbow to Stallworth. The wideout tapped the ball back to himself with one hand, then controlled if after it caromed off his face mask.
A few minutes later, Stallworth extended his body after a short catch, creating an 8-yard play in a third-and-7 situation.
"I just think it's what is expected of us, what we expect from each other," Stallworth said. "If you've got a helmet on, and you're on the field, they expect you to make plays. It's as simple as that. Play for this team, and that attitude becomes ingrained in you. We're pretty much just coached that way. Make plays, win games and move on to the next week. It's not all that complicated."
But because New England is so sophisticated and complex -- even through the Patriots cleverly did nothing exotic Saturday that might aid next week's AFC conference title game opponent in film study -- one wonders whether the Pats can be stopped short in their relentless pursuit of a 19-0 season and a Super Bowl XLII title.
"I thought we played them tough," said Jacksonville linebacker Daryl Smith, "and they still hung 31 [points] on us. I don't know what more you can do."
The Patriots know, though, precisely what they need to do. Brady noted that, "We're 17-0, and that doesn't mean anything." And that's the attitude that permeates every corner of the New England locker room. Starters, reserves, stars and role-players, they all know it.
"I mean, the whole 'can't be beat' thing, we sure don't think about it around here," Evans said. "That's a mighty big statement because this is the NFL and there are good players everywhere you look."
Unfortunately for the rest of the league, there are more of them in the Patriots' locker room than anywhere else.

Re: Huston Street's available?
If the Hughes, Melky, prospect #1 (Kennedy) and prospect #2 is still on the table will Hank push harder for the deal to get done before Pitchers and Catchers report Feb. 19th? Crunch time is quickly apporaching.. The 2008 season will be here beofre we know it.. Cashman can't possibly think that the starting rotation "as is" is good enough to get past the opening round of the playoffs because it sure wasn't last year even with juiced up Roger.
I don't believe any package including Hughes AND Kennedy has ever been on the table.
Obviously, the Yankees would rather get the deal done sooner... But it's just not going to work that way in this situation. And truth be told, it makes no real sense for the Twins to pull the trigger now

mac says feds out to get clemens and andy BUT ISNT LYING NOW???
"No one's concerned about Brian McNamee or how it affects my life," he said. "They just want to use me to get to them [Clemens and Pettitte]. And I'm the one getting hit by the bus. I got hit, and I'm still standing there. And the bus has kept going."
In a report that "shocked" him, McNamee read an L.A. Times story on the Internet that said his name supposedly appeared in the search-warrant affidavit of IRS agent Jeff Novitzky. The affidavit, which had previously become public with the names redacted, included this passage about reliever Jason Grimsley:
"Grimsley stated that [redacted], a former employee of the [redacted] and personal fitness trainer to several Major League Baseball players, once referred him to an amphetamine source.
Grimsley stated that after this referral he secured amphetamines, anabolic steroids, and human grown hormone from [redacted's] referred source.

Re: Huston Street's available?
Eli Manning
Finished the gamed with a QB rating of 132.4. Third straight game vs a legit defense with over a 100+ rating.
We have bradshaw now. It takes the pressure off of Eli to have to pass alot in bad weather.

Huston Street
http://ohholycow.blogspot.com/2008/01/huston-street.html
According to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle, industry sources believe that Billy Beane and the A's may continue the rebuilding process by dealing Huston Street, following the acquisition of Joey Devine. The Yankees would be wise to get involved in any kind of Street sweepstakes, as the bullpen is certainly an area of concern at this point, and Street would provide the dominant set up man the Yankees lack. While he is sure to be expensive, a talented reliever like Street does not become available everyday and he would fill more of a need than Johan Santana. A package centering around Alan Horne and including 2 or 3 additional players could get it done.

And anyone who says, "I'd rather start a drive with 1:50 left and 1 timeout instead of over 2 minutes left with no timeouts" (note: you get an "extra timeout" with the 2 minute warning) is as stupid as it gets (if you understand football at all).

Yes I know what your saying "Not another one" but I always have thoughts on where to take this team and I often change my mind
I think I have the perfect outline here so check it out and tell me what you think
My Mock Draft:
Round 1-OLB Kieth Rivers USC: We can't ignore this Glaring need any longer, Mitchell will most likely be gone and Kiwanuka belongs in his natural DE spot. Rivers should be here when we pick and we need to grab him. A franchise type OLB who does everything well. Good in coverage and can be a steal this late in the draft. Kiwanuka, Aaron Ross and Kieth Rivers.... Lets keep adding 1st rounder's To Spagnuolo's ever improving Defense
Round 2-CB Trea Williams South Florida: I really like both the South Florida corner's. Williams is smooth, Quick and very fluid. He can come right in and be a solid 3rd Corner as he continues to improve. A good cover corner and a impressive player. I would love to have him here in the draft
Round 3-OT Tony Hills Texas: This draft is tackle rich and we'd be foolish not to grab at least 1 on Day 1. Hills is a guy I really like. Great feet, with a mean nasty streak. He did a good job protecting Colt McCoy and I think he will be a solid NFL OT. Groom him for a year then move Diehl back inside and let this guy protect the blindside for the next 1o years. Very solid player
Round 4-FS Eric Wicks West Virginia: Now heres a guy I like alot. He could be a sleeper and if he is here we officially have ourselves a steal. Coming from a very good West Virginai pass Defense he is solid in Center Field. Big and physical (6'1 210) He has excellent closing speed when the ball is in the air. I see big things for this guy and could be that CF ball hawk we want beside Gibril.
Round 5- OG Chester Adams Georgia: I like this guy. A massive man who can really Run-Block. A guy who would work well for the Giants. Can come in, pull and clear the edge. Very Good Guard
Round 6-DE Adam Oliver Georgia Tech: Can rush the passer and really has a motor. When Strahan retires may be able to crack the rotation. Can never have to many DE's
Free Agency:
Nhamdi Asumugha CB: He has a player option on his contract and the Raider's may be forced to let him walk. Very Good player who would make a solid duo with Aaron Ross for years to come
Corey Williams DT: A guy with a high motor. Can come in and start next to Fat Freddy. Gives us the best D-line in Football. Big Barry can be in the rotation as the 3rd DT where he will be great at.
Jabar Gaffney WR: Solid WR who can be a good #2 option behind Burress. We need to go after a player like this because we don't know if Smith/Moss will stay healthy and are ready to take on such big Roles in the Offense next season. Bring in Gafney and let him battle with Smith/Moss for the #2,3,4 WR spots behind Plaxico
Mike Doss FS: I don't love this guy but I see him as a Insurance policy in case Micheal Johnson or Erick Wicks aren't ready to start next to Gibril next season
In House Cleaning:
Cuts:
Amani Toomer: I love yah Well-dressed but your not giving us enough. You need to be replaced please make it easier and retire a Giant
Sam Madison: Your another guy I love Shut-down Sammy but your older and can't be relyed upon for such a huge Role. We ned to bring in the the young guys and if we can pick up that solid FA corner for a reasonable price you'll need to walk
Willy Joe, James Butler, Russel Davis, Manny Wright, Reuben Droughns, Rw McQuarters, Kevin Boothe and I'm sure there are a few others I'm forgetting
Re-sign:
Justin Tuck: Exstend him immediately
Gibril Wilson: If we can get him for a reasonable deal lock Gibril up. No he's not the star we thought he'd be but he's still a very solid player. I Really hope we can lock him up Long term
Brandon Jacobs: Exstend the guy with a incentive laden deal but take care of Brandozer, he deserves it
Chris Snee: Give this guy a nice new deal. He's a great player and him/K Mack make up one of the best Rigt sides in football
Plaxico Burress: I'm not sure when his deals runs out but I would exstend him and let Plaxi finish his career as a Giant. If he can stay healty the guy is a GREAT player

Re: Huston Street's available?
Dowd, while he did perform a similar function as Mitchell, only had to investigate one player. Dowd also had a truckload of affirmative evidence - wiretaps that confirmed calls from Rose's office to a gambling ring and then records from the same gambling ring that detailed Rose's wagering action. For starters. Hard evidence that came from many different sources which all corroborated the basic premise that Rose was gambling.
Mitchell doesn't have a positive steroid test, he doesn't have purchase or receipt records for controlled substances linked to Clemens, he doesn't have other players, coaches, clubhouse employees or even hangers-on who were around Clemens at various points in his career talking about Clemens taking steroids. Mitchell has the word of ONE GUY. One guy who, even if you remove the threat of jail time from over his head, isn't the most stable or reliable of sources of information.
Dowd's opinion on the Clemens situation, for all his bluster about how he sees similarities between this situation and the Rose situation, is worth about as much as my opinion on the Clemens situation.

Re: Huston Street's available?
its weird that the patriots have played the giants twice already, that would be really weird if they played them 3 times
patriots/packers would probably make the best superbowl but i'm rooting hard for the giants
they are the only one of my teams that are still in it
c'mon patriots vs. giants superbowl...
Favre vs Brady would be the duel of the century.
yeah one of the old greats vs. one of the young greats
it's not often you get to see 2 of the top 5 greatest quarterbacks of all time face each other in the superbowl
it's happened a few times before and it helps define who is better, montana vs. elway, montana vs. marino, elway vs. favre... (winner/better qb in bold)
but i still hope the giants make it to the superbowl and win
elway won but hes not the better qb when all said and done
Favre has more MVP's then anyone of all time for a reason.
And hes 38 and still going as strong as ever.
oh get the hell out of here...
everyone knows elway was a greater quarterback
best quarterbacks of all time:
1. joe montana
2. john elway
the rest is arguable/yet to be decided
he got to 5 superbowls for god's sake, c'mon! john elway was amazing
he's my all time favorite football player, he's my all time favorite athlete period.
i will only concede his greatness to joe montana, that's it. because i like montana and have a ton of respect for him
I'm not a big fan of qb rating at all, but for some people who love that stat, Eli's playoff qb rating so far this year is 123.
For all those people getting on Eli saying he was 0-2 with only 2 td's and 4 ints in the playoffs thus far, he is now 2-2 with 6 tds and 4 ints
Very nice Eli, keep it going.

Good powerfull backs and a good pass rush could make life difficult for the Pack. Plus they made some good sdjustments to shut down Barber in the 2nd half. Let's not get over confident....but there has been something special about this season

I'm not as worried as I would be if we were facing Dallas, obviously. But Eli isn't exactly steady (lately has been), we've handled pass rushes plenty well, and their secondary probably won't be able to contain all of our receivers.
But yeah, anything can happen. The Packers just have to stay within themselves and not get overconfident.

It should be a good game, but I'd expect the Packers to pull it out. The Giants have a beat up secondary and Favre has enough receiving threats to take advantage of that secondary.

there is no such thing as an easy opponent in a conference championship game... that being said i am thrilled that we get a home game against the giants rather than a road game against the boys... will it be an easy game ? no, is it a better game than what we all thought we would have ? hell yeah.

Oddly enough, I think the Giants should hope for bad weather, if passing is good, Favre will pick apart a bad secondary. If running is needed to win, it should be a battle

I'll be surprised if GB doesn't win by double digits <knocks on wood/> . They have very little left in tank after this physical game, even if they were healthy they don't match up well with us.

Giants will be TOUGH it's the TITLE GAME for **** sakes. I give NYG alot of credit for the gameplan against the Cowboys. Yes we beat them in week 2 but the Giants are better then the 0-2 NYG were at that point we are as well no RUNNING GAME. Giants are good but I give the edge to my pack 31-21. The BIGGEST QUESTION WILL BE......."WHICH ELI MANNING WILL SHOW UP?"

Heck, they even have the fact that both the Pats and NYG played the Rams/Pats very tough that year during the season.

Avenge 96, Retire Brett, Shut up th e 72 Dolphins, this is beautiful.
Dallas and Indy are both out - LMFAO.
Yeah, count em' out. They like that...

For some reason i felt that both teams would collaspe this week. The resurging Giants are coming off a good last 5 games, as Tony Romo has gotten worse each time it seems. I predicted the Chargers beating the Colts from the Chargers winning streak and the fact that they won the first time against the Colts. I though LT would beast and get at least 1 touchdown but Rivers did well

If the NYG go to the SB, how many times will people bring up SB 36 and the Pats/Rams comparison??
Heck, they even have the fact that both the Pats and NYG played the Rams/Pats very tough that year during the season.
Imagine that point spread? lollollllollloo

Green Bay Passing > New York Passing
Green Bay Rushing>>>>>> New York Rushing
Green Bay pass defense> New York Pass Defence
Green Bay Run Defence> New York Run Defence
this game could be antoher pack blowout
they have a chance, they are playing well, but they are mistake prone- and green bay aint the place to be playing and making mistakes. the weather can accintuate the mistakes. but, its a tossup, although giving the edge to the pack since its a home game
Of course they have a chance. But I think it would take a horrible game by GB and a good game by the Giants for them to win.
But it's the playoffs, anything can happen
sure..since you couldve substituted in the cowboys for the packers in every one of those categories...and they won.
btw.
the weather forecast calls for subzero temperatures
As a Packer fan I am very happy the Giants won today. However, the Giants are no pushover. Any team that has gone 9-1 on the road has to be doing something right. The Giants have a very good running game and an excellent pass rush. I will say that their best hope is to get a pass rush for the whole game next week similar to what they got in the 4th qtr today as that can help mask the weakness of their beatup secondary.

Re: Huston Street's available?
Giants vs. Packers next week
Clifton vs. Umenyiora
Tauscher vs. Strahan
Al Harris vs. Plaxico Burress
Woodson vs. Toomer
Thoughts
Giants secondary vs Favre and the Receivers... with the injuries they have.. it should prove for a difficult game for them.
As a Packers Fan, Giants don't suck...most of their secondary is injured, and they STILL beat the Cowboys with their Defense.
It will be a game next week no doubt, no matter how you try to hype it.
But the Packers will win.
Maybe Romo would have been better dating Homer instead of Jessica!

IRVING, Tex. - There was bad blood between the Giants and the Cowboys. There will be blood ties between the Giants and Packers.
When the Giants visit Lambeau Field for the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, they will be running into Ryan Grant, the running back they were forced to trade away because of a numbers crunch at the end of the preseason. All Grant did was revive the Packers' running game during the season and gain a franchise playoff-record 201 yards in Green Bay's rout of Seattle Saturday.
"That's my brother, man. We're just brothers from another mother," said Brandon Jacobs, who also went to high school with Packers CB Tramon Williams. "I'm looking forward to seeing those guys and going out and doing battle against them."
Grant, who played his high school ball at New Jersey's Don Bosco Prep, was traded away as the Packers desperately tried to replace the departed Ahman Green. For the Giants, it came down to a choice between Grant and Derrick Ward. Grant's former teammates seemed to regret he had to go.
"I wish we'd have kept him. That's my guy," said DE Justin Tuck. "He did a great job coming back from those early fumbles (Saturday, when his turnovers led to a 14-0 deficit). That's how it's been for him. His career was kind of bad early and now he's one of the best backs in the league. That's kind of how the game went for him."
"Trust me, I'm upset Ryan Grant is not with us," said Michael Strahan. "He's a bull and we have our work cut out to stop him. We gave up too many yards rushing today, so he's probably licking his chops to have another opportunity against his former team. He's one of those guys you think, 'We let one go.'"
Grant - who didn't have any carries in the Packers' 35-13 win at Giants Stadium in Week 2 - finished the season with a 5.1-yard average carry and almost had 1,000 yards even with his limited starts. He seemed to revel in the Lambeau conditions Saturday. The early forecast calls for snow and temperatures possibly falling into single digits. It could end up being Grant vs. Jacobs.
"We knew what we had when he was here," said Antonio Pierce, the middle linebacker who will be colliding with Grant the most. "I remember talking to him, saying, 'You're going to be all right.' Now we look at him, the guy put up 200 yards. And he's going to be motivated because it's the team he just left. It's going to be a challenge for us."
