And the potential raping of the Jets by Parcells begins!

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/football/pro/dolphins/sfl-doljets123107,0,6826395.story

Sources: Dolphins interview Jets scouting director for GM job; Cowboys' Ireland frontrunner

DAVIE - The Dolphins officially began the process of filling out their front office Monday by interviewing Jets director of college scouting Joey Clinkscales and securing permission to speak with Cowboys vice president of pro scouting Jeff Ireland, according to multiple sources.

Both are under consideration for the vacant general manager position.

New Dolphins vice president of football operations Bill Parcells, who was with the Jets from 1997 through 2000 and the Cowboys from 2003 through 2006, fired general manager Randy Mueller on Monday morning. According to the team, Parcells also fired director of player personnel Mike Baugh and college scouting coordinator Rick Thompson on Monday.

So Parcells plan to improve the Fins is to take the Jet's scouting department to Miami? The same scouting department responsible for the Jets amazing success these past few years? I'd target the Pats or Cowboys myself.

figures, Parcells wants someone other than Mr T.

I’d like to wish everyone a healthy and a happy new year, even Joe. But Joe in all due respect, your post was silly as usual. every media outlet today noted how the Jets are worse off for having won. not you, you know better.

and saying its bad to have a high draft pick because of the financial risk is a losers attitude that’s been ingrained in you from all the f—-d up draftpicks over the years. on your logic, we might as well surrender our first round pick every year to avoid the risk of over-drafting someone. brilliant logic.

but like I said, you’re a nice guy so happy new year. and to cimini, thanks for everything in 2007, you go above and beyond. cmart, bruce, jted, jake b, all the best to you guys in 2008.

Jerry and the rest of the crew,Happy New Year! We can only go up from here. We have to believe in management. If they dont come through, the jets are toast.

If we all had the same opinions ,this would be one hell of a boring blog. It is the opposite.This blog rocks!

Signing off and back to the party!

Rich, Just read your article on Jets may retain Chad. Wow, this is a huge decision and it’s one I’m glad I don’t have to make. T and Eric don’t have the luxury of making a mistake here. Their fans do not show up if the team sucks. If Clemens bombs on them next season all 3 will be looking for jobs. This is why yesterdays win was a disaster. If they had lost and been in position to draft Ryan, they could have bought themselves 2 more years. But now they are on the hook.

JoeP, everyone knows Clemens has a great arm, but what good is it if you don’t have accuracy? There are a thousand guys with great arms driving buses right now. I challenge you to tell me one guy that came into the league with accuracy issues and became accurate? You can’t, because accuracy can’t be taught. you either have it, or you don’t.
Posted by cmartin75 on January 1, 2008 9:04 AM

Clinkscales would be perfect for Parcells. Good football guy and not a figure that Parcells wouldn’t be able to control. Basically he would be Parcells pupet.The smart thing would be to build around Chad because he gives them the best chance to win next year if the right pieces are put in place. The problem is if i were Chad i would want to play somewhere were i know i would be the starter for 2-3 years [MINNY] with a team with a strong running game and good D that is ready to go to the playoffs. Right now thats not the case with the Jets and its clear they don’t want him for the next few years. So to go back for 1 more year makes no sense.

Top Selections
# Name/College/XVAL Summary
1

DE Chris Long
Virginia
XVAL= 101.0
HEIGHT
WEIGHT
40 TIME
Projected 6'4"
275
4.79
Top10

Pros:Great size with a nonstop motor. Stout against the run and a sure tackler. Good bloodlines being the son of Hall of Fame defensive lineman Howie Long. Strong kid with the ability to bull rush but also uses his hands exceptionally well to beat his man. Production has increased his senior season despite being double teamed and heavily game planned against. Praised by his coaches for his leadership ability. Great upside, the type of player that can be a cornerstone for any defense.
Cons:Lacks top end speed and acceleration but has enough to get by. Doesn't have the explosion of a speed rusher.
2

DT Sedrick Ellis
Southern California
XVAL= 100.5
HEIGHT
WEIGHT
40 TIME
Projected 6'1"
305
4.96
Top10

Pros:Very athletic with good quickness, agility, and speed. Exhibits speed and closing burst in chasing down runners and QBs behind the line of scrimmage. Adept at reading screens and getting outside to stop them. Consistently beats reach blocks, has the agility to escape blocks, and the strength to jolt offensive linemen upright and push them back
Cons:Lacks ideal height and arm length. Will need to get heavier and stronger in the NFL.
3

OT Jake Long
Michigan
XVAL= 96.5
HEIGHT
WEIGHT
40 TIME
Projected 6'7"
330
4.95
Top10

Pros:Has an excellent frame, with room to potentially add more bulk. Good athlete that slides well in pass protection and can adjust to athletic edge rushers. In the running game he shows the ability to drive people off the ball, and the ability to block on the move. Good initial surge at the snap to generate movement and plays with a great hand placement, leverage, and lower body strength. Excellent balance and recognition as a pass blocker. Good overall strength. Can sink his hips and absorb the bull rush. Very imposing at 6’7, 330lbs.
Cons:Isn’t an athletic freak or dominant at the point of attack on every play. Not a great athlete that may lack the upside scouts crave. Can get a little over-aggressive with his hand placement. Broken leg sidelined him in 2005 that will need to be evaluated.
4

NT Glenn Dorsey
LSU
XVAL= 96.5
HEIGHT
WEIGHT
40 TIME
Projected 6'2"
316
5.1
Top10

Pros: As a defensive tackle the initial responsibility is to stop the run. Dorsey is not only a run stopper but with his physical ability he is able to get up field and get the ball carrier as well as the QB. Last year, Dorsey started every game and had 64 tackles while have 8.5 of them for a loss and and three sacks.
Cons:Dorsey is not as big as you would like a DT to be. It makes you wonder how he'll hold up in the NFL at the point of attack. He can do a better job of getting off of blocks. Also, Dorsey was banged up as a senior.
5

QB Matt Ryan
Boston College
XVAL= 94.5
HEIGHT
WEIGHT
40 TIME
Projected 6'5"
224
n/a
Top10

Pros:Experienced signal caller who already plays in a pro style offense. Great size for the position. Very sound mechanics to go along with his textbook footwork and a smooth delivery. Displays above average arm strength to make pretty much all of the necessary throws and uses nice touch when necessary. Accurate passer who reads defenses well, makes the necessary checks at the line which is rare for such a young quarterback, and puts the ball in the right spot. Great poise in the pocket and shows the willingness to take a hit. Moves well in the pocket and shows the ability to tuck the ball and run if the play breaks down. Great intangibles, a guy who studies very hard, shows great leadership ability, and displays the ability to bring his team back from a deficit.
Cons:Forces things into tight windows which leads to far too many interceptions. Erratic player who didn't really live up to the hype until his senior year. Small injury history may raise a red flag with some general managers. Takes unnecessary hits at times.
6

OLB Keith Rivers
Southern California
XVAL= 90.0
HEIGHT
WEIGHT
40 TIME
Projected 6'3"
235
4.58
Top20

Pros:3 year starter. Has the ability to read and react quickly with good speed and acceleration. Can be a violent hitter. Has the ability to rush the passer of the edge or up the gut.
Cons:Occasionally does not take on lead blocks at the point of attack. Can have problems with bigger offensive linemen - can be driven back or have touble shedding blocks. Tends to run too upright chasing ball carriers.
7

CB Mike Jenkins
South Florida
XVAL= 90.0
HEIGHT
WEIGHT
40 TIME
Projected 6'0"
200
n/a
Top20

Pros:Excellent closing speed. tremendous athletic ability. Long arms enable him to play against wr's taller than him. Very physical should play well in bump and run coverage. Will have over 35 career starts and has vastly improved from his freshman year. Can return kicks as well.
Cons:An average tackler who can be juked or run over. Gives up plays in bunches. Not a play making cb. Needs to be more of a student of the game. Held his own against tough competition but never really dominated against weaker. Struggles with plays in front of him. Needs polish in zone coverage.
8

CB Antoine Cason
Arizona
XVAL= 89.5
HEIGHT
WEIGHT
40 TIME
Projected 6'0"
190
4.5
Top20

Pros:Excellent bump and run skills. Can be a playmaker returning kicks. Tackles very well for a cornerback. Will produce turnovers and big plays with his aggressiveness and instincts. Impressive at jumping routes and predicting what opposing QB's plan to do. Seasoned veteran who has matched up against many top WR talents in the the Pac-10.
Cons:Doesn't have the elite speed teams covet. May not be well suited to playing in a man-to-man system. Will need help from the safety or need to avoid matching up against the Steve Smiths of the NFL.
9

MLB Dan Connor
Penn State
XVAL= 89.5
HEIGHT
WEIGHT
40 TIME
Projected 6'3"
235
4.67
Top20

Pros:Very athletic, and has the quickness and speed to cover in space. Knack for finding the ball and making a play on it. Has the toughness and strength to stuff the run. Capable of playing all three linebacker positions because of his size, strength, and instincts. Athletic enough to avoid blocks. True wrap-up tackler. Good in coverage and has the burst needed for a zone scheme. Team leader.
Cons:He will need more bulk and strength to hold up at the point attack in the running game against NFL blockers. Needs work disengaging from blockers. May lack the straight-line speed for man schemes. Lacks a variety of pass-rush moves. Has been flanked by legitimate NFL-caliber linebackers throughout his career and their presence may hide some of Connor's deficiencies.
10

WR Adarius Bowman
Oklahoma State
XVAL= 81.0
HEIGHT
WEIGHT
40 TIME
Projected 6'4"
220
4.53
Top32

Pros:
Cons:
11

OT Sam Baker
Southern California
XVAL= 80.0
HEIGHT
WEIGHT
40 TIME
Projected 6'5"
312
n/a
Top32

Pros:4 year starter at LOT. Baker is tall and athletic with long arms to keep defenders at bay. He has the quickness and good footwork to be an effective blocker. He is an especially effective down blocker and works very well with other offensive linemen. Has no problem getting to the 2nd level.
Cons:Baker can occasionally get too upright at times and he is not as aggressive in pass protection as he is in run blocking. Can get beat by secondary moves. Shows poor technique too often. Possibly overhyped. Limited by a hamstring problem in 2007.
12

QB Andre Woodson
Kentucky
XVAL= 79.0
HEIGHT
WEIGHT
40 TIME
Projected 6'5"
224
4.8
Top32

Pros:Has the powerful arm ideal for the NFL level. Prototypical size for an NFL quarterback. Reads defenses well, finding the open man. Confident player who is a good leader for his team. Will take what the defense gives him, checking off to the proper play. Moves well in the pocket and has average mobility in the open field. Has shown the ability to rally his team from behind and win the close games. Classic pocket passer.
Cons:Has a slow release that gives an edge to opposing defenses. Can be rattled by the pass rush. Not a very good thrower on the run.
13

WR Early Doucet
LSU
XVAL= 78.5
HEIGHT
WEIGHT
40 TIME
Projected 6'0"
212
n/a
Top32

Pros:Doucet has a fairly good combination of size and speed. He has the ability to be a vertical threat and can beat one-on-one coverage to get down the field. Doucet also does a good job of making adjustments to haul in the ball. He also has an impressive track record for stepping up in big games. Doucet has the ability to return kickoffs and is a playmaker in the open field. He also is a willing blocker.
Cons:Doucet does not have great size. He has had some problems with drops and running consistently good routes. Doucet missed five games due to injury as a senior. Accordingly he saw a dramatic drop in production. He also was second fiddle to guys like Craig Davis for much of his time at LSU.
14

QB Brian Brohm
Louisville
XVAL= 77.5
HEIGHT
WEIGHT
40 TIME
Projected 6'3"
227
4.79
Top32

Pros:Strong arm can make all the throws. Reads a defense very well. Great leadership skills. Can run a little bit if the play isnt there.
Cons:Doesnt possess great pocket prescence. Played in a pass friendly offense. Has Taken most of his reps from the shot-gun.

2008 Fantasy Football Commercial

* Due to the three-way tie in strength of schedule and all tiebreakers, Oakland and Atlanta will flip a coin for the third draft position in the 2008 NFL Draft. If Atlanta wins the coin toss, they will be awarded the third draft position, the Raiders would get the fourth spot and Kansas City would land the fifth. If Oakland wins the coin toss, they will draft third, and Atlanta and Kansas City would then flip a coin for the fourth and fifth positions.

Note: The Super Bowl winner picks 32nd and the runner-up picks 31st, regardless of regular season records. All other playoff teams are slotted based on their regular season record upon losing their playoff game. If a team in the playoffs and a team not in the playoffs have the same regular season record, the non-playoff team will select first. If two teams in the playoffs have the same regular season record, the team that lost first in the playoffs will select first. If two playoff teams have the same record and both exit the playoffs in the same round, strength-of-schedule tiebreaker is then used.
