The Rangers, adding to their bullpen, have signed Japanese left-hander Kazuo Fukumori to a two-year, $3 million contract, according to major-league sources.

The move comes just one day after the Rangers declined to offer a contract to another Japanese reliever, right-handed closer Akinori Otsuka.

Fukumori, 31, is likely to serve as a setup man for C.J. Wilson, who currently is the Rangers' closer. The Rangers twice were spurned by free-agent relievers in the past week, with Eric Gagne going to the Brewers and LaTroy Hawkins to the Yankees.

Last season was not a good one for Fukumori, who underwent surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow and pitched only 36 innings, compiling a 4.75 ERA. In 2006, he had a 2.17 ERA in 58 innings.

Fukumori is the third Japanese free-agent reliever to sign with a major-league club this off-season -- the Royals added right-hander Yasuhiko Yabuta and the Indians added righty Masahide Kobayashi.

this paranoia complex still baffles me. sure some of them are sox fans, but others glorify the yanks. who cares? if you're the best franchise in the history of sports, such things shouldnt bother you. NOW, the playoffs this year, on tbs - THAT PISSED ME OFF - gwynn and whoever else was with him were BLATANTLY anti yankee (1998 much).

Would you rather have them admit to being Sox fans or try to hide it and be sneaky and biased? Chris Berman is a Giants fan but it's still great to listen to him call a Giants/Dodgers game. (Granted it's not Vin and Joe, but still good)

Bristol is not Red Sox territory. It's swinger's territory. When the Yankees are doing well, you can walk into a bar, see the game on YES, and everyone in Yankee hats. When the Sawks are doing well, you'll see NESN and Sawks hats. Traditionally though, the Bristol area seemed to lean more toward NY teams than Boston teams (except the Celtics who control pretty much all of New England).

I live in CT, and you would be correct. Down here in Fairfield County it's Yankees 80%, Mets 15% and Sox 5%.

Yeah, it becomes more Sox the further north and east you go it seems. Last time I was in HFD, they had the Yankee game on TV despite the fact the Sox were playing in the resturant we went to, but the bar we went to after was full of Sox hats.

NO doubt the Sox fans have come out of the woodwork like scared termites over the past 5 years.....but that happens with Mets fans too.....I'll admit in the 80s there weren't too many Yankee hats to be seen but trying to be objective the Yankee fan base is more constant and most boastful about showing their "colors" in public. I lived in GA for 4 years in the early 90s and you wouldn't believe all the Yankee fans I met in Atlanta.

Yeah, I can't imagine how having a national "news" organization advancing one's agenda and prospects under the cloak of unbiased journalism could possibly help an organization. No that doesn't make sense at all.

In fact, this whole strange concept of "Propaganda" seems complete without purpose to me. All those governments throughout history were just wasting their time. (roll eyes)
